Organized Life Design Office Remodel
What a dream to be able to remodel the Organized Life Design Office! This was such a treat and we are enjoying this space RIGHT NOW as we write this blog! It functions so well for us to have two desk especially facing each other since we pause about every four seconds to ask each other a question!

To start at the beginning, we loved our office space so much before. As we grew into a team of two (and now four with two Organizing Assistants), it was clear we needed two desks. Not that the dining table in the adjoining room didn’t serve us well but we were ready to commit to our growing family!
I personally had also outgrown my desk. The size was limiting with the type of chair I could use and I was ready for a real comfortable desk chair! My original desk was my mom’s in high school. When starting a new business I couldn’t afford much so refinishing and painting her desk was as sentimental as it was practical. In case you’re worried, it went back to my mom’s house!
The other furniture we had outgrown was the mid century modern bookcase with secretarial. I just needed more room for storing all our organizing supplies and this Craigslist $100 steal had definitely served it’s term for four solid years. Rather then buying another piece of furniture I rallied my skills and designed my new built in cabinets. This was the best way to take advantage of every inch of space as well as making sure it was exactly the depth and size I needed.
One other feature that was incredibly important was maintaining the integrity of this 1970’s Spanish ranch style charm. I insisted on keeping the arches but extended them forward to encompass the bookshelves. We also wanted to keep the trim but freshened up by painting white and cutting to fit the cabinet and bookshelf spaces. All this could only have happened with the help of an awesome contractor team at Bryce Construction.
I had a blast installing this wallpaper from Graham and Brown and still brag about how well I did these seams! Who knows, maybe we start offering under our umbrella of services? I have a few upcoming wallpaper projects to continue practicing on and we’ll be sure to let you know! We are so tickled this built in space was featured by Redfin Real Estate – cue the hey girl heyyy emoji!
Our friends over at See Jane Work (which is available through Office Depot) were amazing to help collaborate for our office finishing product needs. These magazine boxes are some of the best I’ve ever found! The polished white looks clean in any space. They are also wider than your standard magazine box which is a huge bonus! There is never an office space I organize that doesn’t include magazine boxes which rarely hold magazine but more often notepads, labels, planners and any other paper product!
Their padfolio is one of the best around and I have used for almost 5 years. There’s a great pocket on the outside but also a place for business cards on the inside. Luckily they hold our confetti inspired cards just as well! I always take notes on paper but digitize once every week and get rid of the paper trail after!
We drilled a hole in the cabinets to be able to keep an electrical power strip available to hook up the printer and some chargers. These floral and polka dot nesting boxes were the perfect pretty accent to our space storing our printer ink and supplies as well as Cricut tools!
Everyone needs an inbox and their Connecting Wall System was a great easy on the budget solution to hang on the wall right behind my desk. I use the top for receipts that need to be digitized as well as always handy pens to mark any notes. The bottom holds mail that needs to be opened and bills that need to be dealt with. I clear this out completely every Friday afternoon so that it doesn’t get cluttered!
We organized the drawers with the Poppin accessory trays and silicone organizers. Organizing my pen collection by type was crazy satisfying and makes me smile every time I open the drawer! The accessory trays are made to stack so they made the most of the space and I love that the bright colors even continue inside the built-in!
The desks, chairs, lamps and curtains were all chosen with the help of one of my favorite designers Jacob with Medina Designs. I definitely want to go full board color and pattern on everything and he helps me reel it in as well as stay in my mid century aesthetic with a touch of glam.
When shopping for a desk you really should decide what serves you best. With so much happening on our laptop, phone and planner we just didn’t need much desk storage. Then of course gold legs were a must. This West Elm Audrey was an immediate eye love. I’ll take two please!
Purple was an obvious color choice for our chair but it probably doesn’t surprise you that the choices are limited! Jacob can take all the credit for finding these Pottery Barn Teen desk chairs – yes, that’s right Teen! They are super comfy, adjustable and of course you can spin around which was a must! And the perfect shade of lilac to match our wallpaper!
We went through several lamps before landing on these desk lamps. While my first instinct was for a more traditional table lamp with shade, I came up short twice. The first option like these kate spade lamps (we had them in white) overwhelmed the desk space and the room overall. The second option [short table lamp wayfair] just didn’t provide enough light! That’s when we ended up with these gold marble desk lamps from Wayfair which did not overwhelm the space and offered touch flex task lighting! Talk about third time’s a charm!
Jacob was definitely the one who reeled me in on the curtains. We kept it in a simple teal which was easy to find in our favorite Opalhouse collection at Target. We coordinated a similar color design in the adjoining dining room which also brings out the teal in our dining chairs.
Then there was the rug from Grandin Road. We just could not resist the fun colors which also included our purple, teal and orange company colors in floral fashion which was a nod to our tree of life logo. Oversized is an understatement but in a house of all hardwoods, it makes this room feel carpeted and cozier.
Last but not least our gold mirrored logo sign by Post Studio Projects here in Houston was the perfect finishing touch. After growing this company for almost five years it still feels surreal that this started as just an idea. Hanging this sign with our updated logo designed by Oaklyn Studio is a very special moment to me. I’m pretty sure I will never stop pinching myself when I see it.
